Lowest total cost emergency & exit lighting solution
for Public Site application

The Background

The $60.5 million HOTA Gallery, at the Home of The Arts precinct on the Gold Coast opened Saturday 8th May 2021 and is the largest public gallery outside a capital city in Australia.

Designed by international architects ARM, HOTA Gallery spans six levels, with over 2000m2 of AAA rated, international standard exhibition areas which encompass; the Main Exhibition Gallery a 1000m2 column-free space with soaring six metre ceilings designed specifically for international touring exhibitions, a dedicated Children’s Gallery, 900m2 of exhibition space for permanent collections and temporary exhibitions plus nearly 1000m2 of collection storage, workspace, and crate storage area.

The Challenge

Owned and operated by the Gold Coast City Council, this state-of-the-art facility required an emergency and exit lighting solution that would provide the lowest possible cost of ownership and include Luminaires that fit with the stylish architectural design requirements.

The client wanted an emergency and exit lighting system that was capable of ensuring that the emergency lighting compliance requirements were met while being as unobtrusive as possible. As HOTA is a public space it was important to maintain architectural considerations and deliver an emergency lighting monitored system that catered for system testing outside of occupied hours.

The Solution & Result

Clevertronics provided HOTA with a lighting solution comprising of discreet, stylish L10 Nanophosphate Exit and Emergency luminaires combined with the Zoneworks XT HIVE emergency lighting system to meet all the challenges put forward by the client.

The L10 Nanophosphate range of products delivers unmatched lifetime performance with a 12+ year design life - this made them an excellent choice for this building application. Sleek and visually architectural L10 Ultrablade Pro Exit signs were mounted vertically in the halls and lift access areas to minimise obtrusiveness and provide a solution where ceiling mounting was not an option. Rod-suspended Theatre style blade Exits were used in the main gallery areas so as not to detract from the artwork lit on display.

Choosing Zoneworks XT HIVE, with its powerful dynamic self-managed meshing technology was able to ensure that each fitting across the site optimises it`s communication path to maximise the efficiency of the overall network. The only backbone hardware required with XT HIVE is a single controller for every 1000 fittings.

In addition to supplying lighting, Clevertronics Lifetime Technical Support program was provisioned to deliver a complimentary service to ensure that the HOTA Gallery service and maintenance team are supported with ongoing dedicated support, system health checks, ongoing, training, system optimisation, and free software updates by the local Clevertronics team.

With the Zoneworks Monitored Emergency & Exit lighting system platform, Clevertronics offers complimentary support through our Lifetime Technical Support (LTS) program. This service is designed to help Building Owners, Maintenance Contractors and Facilities Managers ensure the on-going health of the system for “Life.”

Clevertronics understands the ongoing requirements of Emergency and Exit Lighting Systems so our committed technical support team is ready to support clients with lifetime contractor maintenance to ensure system can transform to the adaptive needs of the building.
