HIVE Combine brings powerful lighting control to life – seamlessly integrated through the Zoneworks HIVE platform; delivering group lighting control, timed events, energy monitoring and reporting for car parks, stairwells and back of house—without the need for additional infrastructure.
Here are three real world examples of where HIVE Combine delivered lighting control where previously it was not considered because of cost and complexity.
Capital Centre – Commercial Office, Canberra ACT
Background
As part of a building-wide emergency lighting upgrade, the Capital Centre team sought to enhance safety and efficiency by adding lighting control to the carpark stairwells, however traditional options were considered too complex and difficult to install - particularly due to the need for standalone sensors on each stair landing.
Solution
The site was upgraded with the Clevertronics L10 Nanophosphate® emergency lighting range and the Zoneworks HIVE platform. A single HIVE controller was installed to support both the exit and emergency fittings and the HIVE Combine-enabled luminaires in the stairwells. This allowed the team to implement group control and timed events, and without requiring sensor hardware on every landing.

Baptcare Camberwell – Aged Care Facility, VIC
Background
During planning for a lighting upgrade at its Camberwell aged care facility, Baptcare sought a solution that could deliver both emergency lighting compliance and energy-efficient control for its carpark. Traditional lighting control systems were considered, but the additional cost, cabling, and complexity made them impractical for the project.
Solution
Baptcare made the strategic decision to install Zoneworks HIVE, recognising its proven benefits in wireless compliance testing, scalability, and minimal infrastructure requirements. Importantly, the addition of HIVE Combine—which could be activated using the same controller and compatible fittings—meant they could also achieve presence-based lighting control and energy savings without adding cost to the project. It reduced the quantity of sensor-equipped fittings and eliminated the hardware required if using a separate control system.

Flinders Hospital – Healthcare Facility, SA
Background
In a live hospital environment where 24/7 operation is critical, minimising disruption during upgrades is a top priority. When planning a lighting control solution for stairwells as part of a broader emergency lighting upgrade, the Flinders facilities team needed an approach that avoided invasive works, additional cabling, or lengthy commissioning. With Zoneworks HIVE emergency fittings already in place, they looked for a way to extend functionality without compromising day-to-day hospital operations.
Solution
To meet the hospital’s need for minimal disruption, HIVE Combine enabled fittings were added to the existing the existing Zoneworks HIVE system. This approach eliminated the need for hardwired sensors or extra control infrastructure, enabling lighting control features such as timed dimming and group response logic to be configured entirely through the HIVE Combine interface. The system was commissioned quickly and without impacting clinical operations, giving the facilities team seamless control over both emergency and general lighting through a single, integrated platform.
